Primary school teachers candidates' views on values education in primary school mathematics course

The aim of this study is to determine primary school teacher candidates' views on values education in primary school mathematics course. In the study, which is a qualitative study, case study, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group of the research consisted of teacher candidates studying in the primary school teaching department of a state university. A total of 208 teacher candidates studying in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades participated in the research. "Primary School Teacher Candidates Interview Form" prepared by the researcher was used as a data collection tool in the study. Content analysis and descriptive analysis, which are qualitative data analysis methods, were used in the analysis of the obtained data. In the study, it was concluded that primary school teacher candidates had knowledge of the concept of values and values education, their expressions about the concepts were similar to the definitions in the literature and other studies, they found values education most related to life sciences and social studies courses and least related to mathematics course, they did not know the root values and course-specific values included in the 2018 Mathematics Course Curriculum, they found the values of sharing, responsibility, and equality most related to mathematics course and the values of love, friendship and patriotism least related to mathematics course, they had the opinion that values education can be done in mathematics lesson, they mostly planned to do activities related to problems, group work and real object sharing activities in order to provide students with values in mathematics course, they thought they would encounter difficulties while doing values education in mathematics course, and they needed support regarding values education in mathematics course.
