Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to show the effect of choosing between appliances supported by different anchorage units and the choice of expansion protocol on maxillary protraction. For this purpose, patients with hybrid hyrax and RME appliances who underwent alt-RAMEC protocol and who did not were evaluated in four groups. Lateral cephalometric radiographs of patients who applied to Gaziantep University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics for class III malocclusion treatment were used in the study. Angular and linear analyses were performed of 120 pre-treatment and post-treatment lateral cephalometric films of 60 patients, including hybrid hyrax apparatus and alt-RAMEC group 15 (HH-Alt), RME apparatus and Alt-RAMEC group 15 (RME-Alt), hybrid hyrax apparatus group 15 (HH) and RME apparatus group 15 (RME). Oneway Anova was used to compare the normal dispersing parameters in four groups and Tukey HDS test was used to determine the group causing the difference. Paired sample t test was used for intra-group comparison of variables and Chi-Square test was used for comparison of qualitative data. According to the findings obtained from the study, HH-Alt group was found to be the most effective and fastest group for the protraction of maxilla. This is followed respectively by the HH and RME-Alt group. The HH group was seen as the second most successful group due to the excellent vertical control it provides and fewer dental side effects. Among the four treatment combinations RME group had shown fewer skeletal develop and more dental side effect. When the results were evaluated, it was seen that the hybrid groups protracted the maxilla faster and more effectively than the conventional groups, and also improved vertical control by reducing the rotation of the maxilla. It was observed that while the Alt-RAMEC procedure contributed to the advancement and speed of the maxilla, it did not improve vertical control. The choice between hybrid or conventional appliances is more important than using alt-RAMEC protocol on protraction seen in the maxilla.
