Investigation of the relations between attitudes of teaching social studies and applications of multiple intelligence theory for primary school teacher candidates

Abstract (EN)

This study aims to determine the relations between attitudes of social studies and multiple intelligence theory for primary school teacher candidates. The research implemented relational scanning model as a quantitative research model. The research group consists of 294 3rd grade University students that already passed social studies lecture from Artvin Coruh, Bursa Uludag, Ege and Eskisehir Anadolu Universities. In this research, the personnel information sheet created by the researcher, "Social studies teaching attitude scale" developed by Sarıkaya, Özgöl, Yılar (2017) and "Multiple intelligence theory attitude scale" by Kılıc (2008) were used. In the progress of data collection and data analysis descriptive statistics were used. Collected data were analyzed with the usage of SPSS 20.0 software. During the data analysis, Mann Whitney U test used for comparison of two groups, for groups more than two Kruskal Wallis H used for the comparison, in case Kruskal Wallis H test results showed meaningful results, Mann Whitney U test used as post-hoc test, correlation and regression analysis used in order to understand from which group the difference comes from. As a conclusion of the study, a meaningful relation is determined for primary school teacher candidates between attitude levels of teaching social studies and sub dimensions and attitude levels of multiple intelligence theory (p<0.05) There is a highly positive correlation between attitudes of teaching social studies and attitudes of multiple intelligence theory for Primary school teacher candidates. Accordingly, as the attitudes of teaching social studies increase, attitudes of multiple intelligence theory also increases. The teaching attitude of social studies of primary school teacher candidates are determined as a positive indicator of attitude of multiple intelligence theory. (p<0.05) Accordingly, the data obtained in this study, which was prepared in order to determine which of the multiple intelligence areas to give preference to the elementary teacher candidates in order to carry out Life studies teaching effectively and efficiently, will enable the teacher candidates to have an idea about their profession in the future and improve the quality of education.
