Visual arts lesson actualized by class teacher's: A qulitative research intended to the learning and teaching process

This is a qualitative research in the cultural analysis pattern and maintained in scanning model intended to; investigate how the teacher that maintains visual arts lessons maintains the activities in the process of teaching and learning, defining of what the strong and weak sides of these activities are, and defining the approaches of the teacher?s and students? to the lesson.Application of the research was done in 2007-2008 academic year spring term, in Konya, Seydişehir in an elementary school affiliated to Ministry of National Education. The working group of the research consists of a section in which students study at elementary education 5th class, and the teacher that performing the visual arts lesson of the mentioned section. ?Interview? and ?observation? techniques were used as data collection technique. Observations were performed with all the twenty-eight students and classroom teacher, and interviews were done with ten focus students as five female, and five male students, and with classroom teacher.The results emerge from the interviews with the teacher and students? which maintained in the basis of the findings obtained from the research data are as follows:General view of the students to visual arts lesson students are favour for performing the lesson and drawing pictures. In the virtual arts lessons, drawing workings have been performed in various subjects, mostly in freehand and about national holidays. Teaching and learning process generally performed in the way of; the teacher?s saying the working subject, perform the drawing works and the teacher?s evaluation the drawing works, respectively. Thanks to visual arts lesson, making picture and drawings ability, and thinking skills of the students? have been developed. The deficient sides of visual arts lesson; pictures in various subjects, 3D works and printmaking works have not been done.General point of view of the interviewed teacher towards to visual arts lesson lesson is essential and the students attend the lesson eagerly. According to the teacher interviewed by; drawing works have been performed about stated days and weeks, but, some activities cannot be performed in visual arts lesson. Teaching and learning process generally performed in the way of; teacher notifies the students about subject, students begin to perform the drawing works and evaluation of the works by teacher, respectively. Thanks to visual arts lesson; hand skills and imagination of the students have been developed, interaction has been established with each other and the students get knowledge about the basic subjects as perspective.The results emerged from observations which have been performed in the direction of findings and acquired from the research data are as follows:The classroom teacher, who maintains the visual arts lesson, is strong in terms of; binding the subjects with the previous and next lessons, presenting the subject in the proper form to students? level, giving to apprehensible explanations and instructions, binding the subject with life, giving the students the chance to express their ideas and views freely, consolidating the creative views of the students? by positive feedback, summarizing and giving suitable feedback ,listen to the students with interest, making students gain the respectful and constructive criticism awareness towards the each other?s works, using voice tone effectively and qualities of the usage speech and body language. Nevertheless, the teacher is weak in terms of ; arrangement of activities for the effective attendance of the students, presentation of the sample activity products in the direction of the students? would have, arrangement of activities related to three learning area, take a part to drawing techniques in teaching, using various teaching methods and techniques effectively.
