Opinions of classroom teachers on competence in physical education and play lessons

The aim of this study is to determine classroom teachers opnions on their competence level in physical education and play lessons and to see their thoughts on how much qualified they see themselves in which sub-dimensions (planning and preparation fort he lesson, teaching, strategy, method and technique, material use, classroom management, application, measurement and evaluation) and to determine whether there are any meaningful differences between these opinions based on their gender, seniority, age, condition of taking or not taking theoretical and practical lessons and the department they graduated from.This study is a descriptive study done in screening type. The population of the study is composed of primary school teachers working in primary schools in Malatya and sampling of the study is composed 423 primary school teachers working in Malatya. To collect data, 'Physical Education Lesson Teacher Qualification Scale' and 'Personal Information Forms' have been used.According to the results of the research it has been found that classroom teachers generally find themselves sufficient in physical education and play lessons. At the level of sub-dimensions, it has been concluded that the teachers consider themselves sufficient in plannig, preparation for the lesson, teaching, strategy, method and technique, material use, application, classroom management and measurement-evaluation sub-dimensions.When the answers of the teachers gave to the questions related to their demographical features were analyzed, it has been found that there is not any significant difference based on their gender, age and seniority; but there are significant differences based on their condition of taking or not taking theoretical and practical lessons and the department they graduated from. This significant difference is in favor of the teachers taking theoretical and practical lessons and finished a 4-year classroom teaching department in Education Faculty.Key Words: Competence, physical educatin and play, classroom teachers.
