Examination of class teachers' attitudes to physical education and game teaching and sports awareness

The aim of this study is to examine the attitudes and sports awareness of classroom teachers working in Gaziantep towards physical education and game teaching. For this purpose, the 30-item Sports Awareness scale developed by Uyar and Sunay in 2019 was applied to 389 classroom teachers working in schools affiliated to Gaziantep Provincial Directorate of National Education. Necessary permissions were obtained from the authors for the application of the scale. The scale also includes a preliminary information form that includes the participants' age, gender, class taught, relationship with sports, education level and Professional seniority year.Microsoft Excel program was used to organize the data obtained with in the scope of the research and make it ready for analysis, and SPSS 20.0 program was used to analyze and interpret the data.The Independent Sample t-test was used to compare the mean scores of the participants from the sub-dimensions of the sports scale in terms of gender and educational status, and the One Way Anova test was used to calculate the grade levels, sports relations and Professional seniority years.The data were presented as minimum, maximum, meanand Standard deviation and analyzed at p<0.05 significance level.It was determined that the average scores obtained by the participants from the sub-dimensions of sports awareness differed according to their education level, age, gender, relationship with sports, years of Professional seniority and education levels they taught (p<0.05).As a result, it can be said that the education levels, ages, genders, relations with sports, Professional seniority years and education levels of teachers who teach at primary school level have a significant effect on their awareness of sports.
