Primary school teacher's opinions about the problems they are facing during the integration activies and their solution proposals

With this study, Primary school teachers?s opinions about the problems they are facing during the integration activities and their solution proposals are stated. Furthermore, the effects of primary school teachers?s age, sex, the departments from which they graduated, seniority and the number of students to the problems, together with their attitudes and the relation betweeen these points are studied. The universe of this study covers all the primary school teachers who work in public and private instutions in Izmir, of the 2006-2007 education year. The example of this research covers 66 female, 54 male; in total 120 teachers who are teaching in public and private 13 schools which are under the control of Ministery of Education in Izmir, in the education year of 2006-2007 . In the research as a measurement tool; a scale which evaluates teachers?s opinions and attitudes about the students who are in need of special education in normal educational environment called Opinions Relative to Mainstreaming Scale (ORMS) is used together with an interview form prepared by the researcher. This form is prepared to show the teachers personal pecularities and to state their views and solution proposals about the diffuculties they are facing during the integration activities . For analyzing the data `SPSS 11.0 for Windows? programme is used and evaluated on computer. The teachers?s opinions about the problems they are facing during the integration activities and the distribution of their solution proposals and their percentages are stated. And the t-test is used to find out the differences between the attitudes of primary school teachers against the integration activities and personal pecularities. The data obtained has been evaluated and described. At the end of the reseach it is understood that the attitudes of the teachers against the integration activities are affected by the departments they graduated, getting integration trainee and getting support from the guidance service.The ones who are graduated from primary school teaching departments are more positive rather than the ones who aren?t. It is the same for the ones who had integration rainee and who did not, and the ones who got support from the guidance service and who did not. It is understood that the teachers attitudes are affected by the sex, age, seniority, the number of students in classes, the physical environment of classes and family cooperation. The teachers have stated their problems about integration activities as; the capacity is not suffecient enough forintegration, having less participation to the trainee courses, not preparing other programmes for integration, some regulations are done, not enough support is taken from the school authorities and from the other personnel and even from guidance services, not having special education specialists, the physical structure of the school is not suitable for the ones who are in need of special education, being mentally ill is one of the most difficult one to cope with, not being informed about the students before and having not enough family-teacher cooperation.For the solution proposals they recommended to change the physical conditions, to provide teaching aids and materials for the students who are in need of special education, the teachers are supposed to participate all the education programmes about the integration activities together with the school personnel and families, it is necessary for the teacher-family and the school personnel to cooperate, there should be education specialists and seperate education environment should be created.
