Grade teachers' activities of teaching songs in music lessons

ACTIVITIES OF TEACHING SONGS IN MUSIC LESSONS Aydınlı, Demet Master of Fine Arts in Musical Education Master of Fine Arts Thesis: Enver Tufan, Doç. 30.04. 2007 It has been known that the importance of music education and the grade teacher who gave it, is undeniable for development of children in their primary education. In this study, which is a descriptive survey in structure, a questionarie has been given to the grade teachers as a data collecting technique. In the first part of this questionnaire, nine questions have been asked for the purpose of determining the personal characteristics of them, and in the second part there are thirty questions and an extra one without choices to determine their applications and attitudes related to singing activities in classroom environment. The grade teachers who work in the primary education institutions in Turkey constitutes the universe of this study and the sampling is selected from this universe by using the set grouping method. In the study, analyses were evaluated at the 0.05 level of significance. All the analyses were performed at the level of each item which constitudes the scale. To analyze data, SPSS 13.0 statistics program was used. According to the study, singing activities are very important to most of the grade teachers as a part of their lesson, but they have many difficulties in selecting songs, finding the publishings about the song literature, applying the teaching methods of singing, preparing the student to sing and in playing an instrument for soloistic and accompaniment purposes. Results obtained from this data have been compared with the data from the ones that obtained from questions about the personal characteristicts of the teachers who participated in this study.
