Evaluation of appropriateness of teaching methods applied in elementary education program with learning styles (d.kolb)

The purpose of the study is to define the appropriateness of teaching methods applied in elementary education program courses considering students? learning styles with regard to D. Kolb?s classification of learning styles.Purposeful sampling method is applied in determining the participants. 564 students at Celal Bayar University elementary education Program and 385 students at Dokuz Eylül University Elementary Education Program, totally 949 student-participants were administered. In both universities, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students were chosen as participants.Translated by professionals into Turkish, Kolb Learning Style Inventory Version 3.1 (KOSE) devised by Kolb (2005) is used to determine the learning styles of students.In order to ascertain the methods applied in Elementary education Program, with data gathered through literature reviewing, a Learning Form has been prepared and applied to students.Following results have been attained;?It has been found that the majority of Elementary education Program students have converging and assimilating learning styles.?Differences in the frequency of the application of teaching methods used in Elementary education Program at both Universities have been stated. With regard to these differences, it is determined that for some courses at the universities, no specific method has been selected while for others appropriate methods for students? learning styles have been selected and applied.Key Words: Learning, Learning Style, Teaching Method.
