The aim of this research is to analyse how the number of pupils in a class affects the stress and anxiety conditions of primary school first level class teachers. The environment of this research consists of primary school first level class teachers working at state schools in the county of Küçükçekmece in İstanbul in the academic year of 2007-2008. The examples of this research include 123 primary school first level class teachers form different schools. In order to ascertain the state and trait anxiety of teachers State ? Trait Anixiety Inventery was applied and in order to ascertain the state of stress Work Stress Scale was applied to participating teachers at their school by the researcher.Variant Analyzing test was used in order to research whether state, trait anxiety and stress conditions of primary school first level class teachers differentiated in relation to the number of pupils in a class. Kruskal Vallis Test was practised in order to determine the discrepancy in accordance with the number of pupils in a class so as to examine the questions of the scale seperately.In addition to this the Variant Test and Kruskal Vallis Test were applied considering the gender, age, service life of the teachers and the class they are teaching.According to the result of the research there wasn?t a distinct discrepancy on the state, trait anxiety and stress conditions in relation to the number of pupils in a class taught by the teachers participating in the research.After having examined the questions forming the scale seperately, some discrepancies occured in some questions according to the gender, service life of the teachers and which class they are teaching.Key words: Stress, Anxiety, Number of Pupils in a Class, Teacher?s Stress
