Comparative analysis of the power struggle of great powers in Ukraine and Georgia in the post-cold war era

History in Ukraine, which has geopolitics, has been the scene of clashes over great powers. With the collapse of the USSR and the end of the Cold War, Ukraine and Georgia, which declared their independence, once again became the battleground of the great powers. Although they do not have resources such as oil and natural gas, Ukraine and Georgia are key countries in transporting energy resources from the Caspian and Central Asia to Europe. The policies of the European Union (EU) and the United States of America (USA) towards these two countries are very similar. The USA and the EU attach importance to Ukraine and Georgia in order to safely transport the energy resources in the Caspian and Central Asia to the West. For this reason, both the USA and the EU aimed to bring to power the cadres that they could agree with in Ukraine and Georgia, starting from the second half of the 90s, in order to come to an effective position in these countries, and in this direction, serious economic aid was provided to both countries. On the other hand, Russia Federation, the heir of the USSR, another great power, aimed to maintain its power within the framework of the "Near Abroad" doctrine that it declared in order not to lose its influence in these two countries. China, an ally of Russia Federation, aimed to develop economic relations rather than establishing a direct influence on Ukraine and Georgia. Since the aims of the great powers on Georgia and Ukraine are different, these two countries have always been exposed to political and economic crises. Both the USA and the EU, as well as Russia Federation, Ukraine and Georgia have entered into a fierce struggle to bring their own cadres to power. The power struggle between the great powers has led to color revolutions in Georgia and Ukraine. The "Rose Revolution" took place in Georgia in 2003, and the "Orange Revolution" took place in Ukraine in 2004. However, these colorful revolutions did not constitute the culmination of the struggles of the great powers over these two countries. The war between Russia Federation and Georgia in 2008, and Russia Federation's occupation and later annexation of Ukraine's Crimea in 2014, revealed the methods that Russia Federaiton can resort to in order not to lose its dominance over these two countries. The color revolutions and conflicts experienced have been an indication that the struggle of the great powers over Georgia and Ukraine will continue.
