Abstract (EN)

From past to present, Turkey-Greece have lived together and continued their existence as two states with a common culture and the same geography. Apart from short-term compromises, they have dragged their bilateral relations into a difficult process, often with tension and almost on the verge of war. The borders of Turkey-Greece were determined with the Lausanne Peace Treaty. The two states have come face to face with various issues such as Cyprus, Minorities, Agean Sea, territorial waters, airspace, natural resources. Problems in Turkish-Greek relations have continued from past to present. The aim of the study was to evaluate what happened between the two states during the AK Party period after the Cold War and to analyze the reflection of the past on this period. In this context, the relations from Greece's independence until 2023 are discussed in outline from past to present. However, when we look at the last twenty years, as a summary of the past, most of the time there was conflict between two states, and as an exception, there was reconciliation and cooperation. It would be correct to say that neither of the two states made any concessions on the main issues or high policy issues, and the problems remained equally unresolved. From time to time, the two states compromised and cooperated on nefarious political issues and were at the same table. Despite this, crises, harsh mutual discourses and suspended dialogue processes were often witnessed. Before the earthquakes, the relations between the two states were extremely tense and fragile. After the earthquakes, the two states entered into a dialogue process and took mutual positive steps towards each other. The dialogue process, which was suspended for the sake of cooperation and reconciliation, was resumed as of 2023.
