Examples of civil architecture in söğüt and its surroundings

This thesis examines the civil architectural structures in Söğüt district of Bilecik province and includes two houses, two schools, three fountains, a government building and a museum in the centre of Sögüt, and two houses and a school in Bedi Village near Sögüt. In the first part of the thesis, a brief information is given about the geography, history, the population movements and social life of Söğüt are mentioned. In the second chapter, the development of the examples of civil architecture and their place in Turkish art, which are the subject of the thesis, are studied. As a result of the study, we see that the houses, although they are located in the city centre and in the village, have some common features, and they also have differences due to their location, and these differences and similarities are still valid when compared with other houses around Bilecik. İdadi and Dârüleytam, located in a complex in Söğüt district centre, have both different and common features. Additionally, we state that the school in Bedi Village was constructed in accordance with the school construction trend of the period by explaining it extensively in terms of architecture. We discuss the structure, location and usage differences of the fountains, and we talk about the differences and common aspects of the decoration characteristics. We see that the Government House, which has not reached our day in Söğüt district centre, has common characteristics with the state buildings built in Anatolia of the time. The building, which is now used as Söğüt Museum, has a style that is suitable to the traditional residential architecture. Finally, it is stated that Söğüt and its environs are important as the Ottoman Empire was established here and that the religious and civil architectural examples of the buildings in this area should be worked in detail.
