In this study, ethylenediamine-silica material was synthesized using sol-gel method. The obtained modified silica was characterized by C, H, N elemental analysis, BET surface area and FT-IR spectroscopy.Preconcentration conditions of nickel (II) on column loaded with the modified silica were investigated. The effects of parametres such as pH, flow rate, volume, matrix constituents of solutions and type, volume and concentration of eluent on preconcentration of nickel (II) were studied. The optimum conditions for preconcentration of nickel were determined experimentally. The preconcentration method was applied for determination of nickel by FAAS in synthetic seawater and lake water which is certified reference material.Consequently, it was shown that the synthesized and characterized ethylenediamine-silica material can be used for preconcentration of nickel (II).
