Corinthian capitals from Soli/Pompeiopolis

Colonnaded Street in Soli/Pompeiopolis is the most important monumental building in the city measuring 350 m. with 200 coloumns. Along with its contemporaries it is built in Corinthian order. This work aims to answer the question of workshop and dating for the Corinthian capitals found in the Colonnaded Street using style critic. A total of 90 Corinthian capitals, some of which are currently housed in the museum, are catalogued under four main groups; Normal Corinthian Capitals (65), Acanthus Row Capitals (4), Plaster Capitals (2) and Figured Corinthian Capitals (19). These capitals are further grouped according to their decoration and typology and are analogically studied to similar capitals in regards to their style, workshop and construction phases. With this study it has been understood that the Corinthian capitals found in the Colonnaded Street in Soli/Pompeiopolis have been created between the end of the 2nd century and the first half of the 3rd century in local limestone by Syrian and local craftsmen influenced by the Aphrodisias School.
