Abstract (EN)

Maresin 1 (MaR1) is an endogenous bioactive lipid mediator with anti-inflammatory effects that regulate inflammation resolution and tissue regeneration. Chronic inflammation is common in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), especially in patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) treatment. In our study, we aimed to investigate the relationship of MaR1 level with inflammation parameters in ESRD patients. The study consisted of 30 patients treated for HD with central venous permanent catheter (CVPC group), 30 patients treated with HD with arteriovenous fistula (AVF group), 30 patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 3-4 (predialysis group) and healthy volunteers. It consisted of 4 groups, including 30 healthy individuals (control group). MaR1 level evaluated before and after HD. Biochemistry values, CRP, ferritin, albumin, lipid profiles (HDL, LDL, total cholesterol values) and MaR1 levels were studied from venous blood samples. Body mass indexes of the patient and control groups were calculated. SPSS 22 package program was used for statistical analysis. Significance level was accepted as p<0.05. In our study, although it was not statistically significant when compared to healthy individuals, the level of MaR1 was found to be lower in CKD patients and especially in HD patients. There was a positive correlation between MaR1 and HDL in the fistula group, a positive correlation between MaR1 and ferritin in the predialysis group, a positive correlation between MaR1 and glomerular filtration rate and platelet when all groups were evaluated together, and a negative significant correlation between MaR1 and urea and creatinine. As a result, MaR1 level was found to be low in CKD patients. The low detection of MaR1, which has a potential anti-inflammatory property, in CKD patients with widespread inflammatory processes suggests that MaR1 may be among the inflammatory parameters. Our findings will be useful in demonstrating the relationship between renal functions and inflammatory parameters and MaR1 level.
