Analysis of social studies textbooks in context of values

The aim of this study is to analyze the values in the Social Studies curriculum in the context of the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade Social Studies textbooks. For this purpose, document analysis based on qualitative research was conducted. The universe of the research consists of Social Studies textbooks in MEBBİS (Ministry of National Education Information Systems). The sample consists of 4-7 class social studies textbooks, which are accepted as 5 (five) years textbooks starting from the 2019-2020 academic year with the decision of the Ministry of National Education Board of Education and Discipline and used in the 2020-2021 academic year. The data collection tools used within the scope of the study are the Social Studies curriculum and textbooks. The collected data were classified under the themes of content analysis, texts, images/figures, news, questions and measurement-evaluation. As a result of the analysis, the values of friendship, self-control, patience, love and justice are the values that are reflected the most in the 4-7 grade books, responsibility for the core values, sensitivity to cultural heritage among the core values, patriotism and honesty among the root values, and giving importance to the family unity among the basic values. It can be said that the gains were not reached. It has been determined that the values of honesty and industriousness in the 5th grade, patriotism in the 6th grade and sensitivity to cultural heritage in the field of culture and heritage learning, and the values of honesty, respect, peace and diligence in the 7th grade are not clearly reflected both in the achievements and in the books.
