The effect of scouting on the teaching of values in social sciences course

The aim of the study is to investigate the impact of scouting on the teaching of values within the scope of social studies course. The research was conducted with a "case study pattern" contained within the "qualitative research" approach. As a working group of the study, the school in Düzce Yığılca district where the researcher conducted the scouting camps has been identified. For a sample of his research, he participated in at least one scout camp from students at the school with the "criteria sample" method. 6, 7 from 8th grade among students. Of the classes, 15 students were identified, including 9 students, 9/u girls and 6 "boys. The research used a semi-structured interview form as a data collection tool. The data obtained as a result of the interviews were analyzed through the descriptive analysis method. Based on the code and themes obtained as a result of the analysis, it was concluded that scouting had a positive effect on the teaching of 4 of the 18 values in the social studies course. These values that are positively affected are responsibility, solidarity, sensitivity is patriotism. The impact of scouting activity on values was examined in detail in the research. The investigation concluded that the night watch and inspection activities; it has been concluded that the oba system has been instrumental in achieving the value of solidarity, Çanakkale Milli Bilinç Kampı (the Dardanelles National Consciousness Camp) and the flag ceremony activities have been instrumental in achieving the value of patriotism, and the sapling and environmental cleaning activities have been valued for sensitivity. The research is seen as important in the field of social studies as giving a different and applied method to the education of values and the absence of any further research examining the impact of scouting in this field. Based on this information, it is possible that social studies teachers can teach their scouting activities and the values set in the program by giving their students the chance to apply them in the natural habitat and actively.
