Examining the learning levels of primary school students on democracy and citizenship education in social studies class

When we look at the developments an changes experienced in the field of education in today's modern age; It is aimed to gain knowledge, skills and values through education of citizenship and democracy for the development of a conscious society with a democratic society and citizenship knowledge. Nowadays, we see that in the ever-changing and developing World, it has been renewed and changed in educational models and programs. In this change, issues such as human rights, citizenship and democracy education take an important place in the center of education. The need for these areas is increasing despite the changing World conditions. These issues have always found their place in the Turkish education system from the past to the present. The purpose of this research; The aim of this course is to compare the learning levels of acquisitions related to citizenship and democracy education given in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in social studies course and to compare between private schools and state schools in the global world. The data of the study were carried out with 398 secondary school students studying in state and private schools in the city center of Gaziantep. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.00 software. In the light of the obtained data, results such as gender, parental education status, parents' occupation, income level of the students studying in state and private schools were obtained. In the light of the results obtained, teachers should benefit from the materials that will maket he lesson of citizenship and democracy education in social studies lesson, and the studies were completed by offering suggestions such as using mass media and technology.
