Studying the values which should be gained in social studies lessons according to the socio-economical situations of the families

In this work, it is aimed to study the values which should be gained in social studies lessons according to the socio-economical situations of the families and to determine which of these values are prioritized by the families. With this purpose, interview form is applied on the parents of 3 Secondary Schools which are located in Kastamonu city and which are determined to be among the three different levels in terms of socio-economical structure. The datas that are gained as a result of these forms, are processed on tables. The sample of this research consist of 90 student parents (being all of the parents are students' fathers) in schools being selected randomly and that have three different socio economical levels. In this study, qualitative research method is used. The datas were gathered by making semiconfigured interview and by applying interview forms with the student parents in the secondary schools that are different in terms of the socio-economical structure. In interview forms, 10 questions, prepared by taking opinions of experts and other researchers were asked to the parents. The datas were resolved by means of descriptive analyse. vii According to the results attained from these researches, it is concluded that the primary values that these mentioned parents expect to gain in social studies lessons differ according to the socio-economical structures of them. Also, when examining this according to the income conditions of the families, numbers of the individuals in the families, the educational conditions of the parents and according to the occupations that the parents work in, it is concluded that the primary values of the familes differ. It is concluded that all the parents of three socio-economical groups, mostly give priority to the three values are; respect, patriotism and honesty. This research is important due to the values education which is being given importance recently in terms of academically and politically is being examined according to the socioeconomic structure. The priorities of the parents in values education is detected. The examining of these values is made according to the socio-economical structures.
