The use of teaching materials in social studies class in intangible cultural heritage education

As long as the number of sense organs involved in learning increases the information become more permanent, easy to remember and the learning also becomes efficient and effective. Especially to facilitate the remembering of soft information, ıt needs to embodied and supported by teaching tools. The social studies subject is the course that involves the soft information more than the other courses. Therefore, this course reveals the need for use in the content. Embodiying intangible culture, supporting visual learning, facilitating the learning by appealing to their sense organs reveals the need for use in the social cultural heritage education. The use of visual and auditory tools in teaching is effective to embody abstract subjects. These tools ensure that the learned information becomes simple, understandable and the information is permanent. The aim of this research is to examine student's views on the use of visual tools in intangible cultural heritage education. In accordance with this purpose, an aqualitative study was carried out within the scope of social studies cource. The study of the researched consisted of 7th grade students of a secondary school in Pendik district, Istanbul. A semi- structured interview form was used as a data collection tool and datas were analyzed using content analysis. Looking at the research results, ıt was determined that all of the students expressed possitive opinions. It was clearly seen that the students found the teaching tools fun, instructive, permanent and necessary. It was confirmed that there are effective tools in teaching intangible cultural heritage.
