Abstract (EN)
Social studies courses have been taught in our education system as a content over 100 years, as a name 50 years and in accordance with nature of multi-disciplinary over 10 years. In this course, the content is chosen through various branches of social science and combine into pedagocic purposes, and this course is taught to young generations with the aims of social studies objectives. In this process, the social studies branches that construct social studies course content has experiences various changes by its nature. Putting forward these changes is crucial to realize the teaching that is appropriate for the nature of social sciences. In this MA thesis, from the same point of view, it is worked out how to be a good teaching sutiable to social sciences, limited to history discipline. To sum up, it has been seeking an answer how to teach history in accordance with social studies teaching. This thesis is a case study that is done through getting opinions from social studies teachers, educators of history and historicians about how to make a good teaching history in accordance with social studies. The study group consist of social studies educators, social studies teachers, historicians, history educators working different places betwwen 2015-2016 year. It is aked for the views of 3 proffesors, 15 Asst Prof, 12 research Asst, 26 teachers. In this study implemented through qualitative research methods with case study, is used standardized open-close technique to gather data. In this study, the analysis of data is carried out taking place dimensions of objective, content, education background, and testing-evaluation in a desciptive manner. There is a new structure. In this new structure, the data analysis is done in accordance with content anaylsis. The most important finding at the end of the study is the pattern that is put forward in a study done by Barr, Borth, and Shermis in USA. This study is the basic fundamental approaches of social studies-as a transfer of citizenship social studies education, teaching social studies as a social sciences, and teaching social as a reflective research field. In this study, these themes come out that can be seen dimensions of teaching history in accordance with social science nature. These themes are: Teaching history that is perceived as past,present, future ; teaching history as transfer of culture ; teaching history as knowledge transfer; teaching history as literacy of history; teaching history as conscious of history, teaching history as a pedagogic tool, teaching history of citizenship education ; teachin history as a view of multi-disciplinary. In the second dimension of the study, various people, events, places,periods and themes is expressed in accordance with social studies teaching content. The most remerkable finding is the emphasis not only the need of what the history content is consisted to social studies but also how to arrange the content. when viewing these emphasis in detail, it is mentioned that the content should be arranged local/common, chronological, Turkish history centered, superficial ( not in detail) , based upon skill and value, thematic and holistic. In the social studies courses, it is important to put more emphasis on especially the education background, special teaching methods and techniques and special teaching materials. When putting emphasis on social studies, it is thought to be positive situation on laying emphasis on modern approaches of history teaching. Another outstanding result is that instead of focusing sole teaching methods, technique or material, mentioning about different approaches and diversities. In testing and evaluation that is the last phase of the study, it can be said positive for being used innovative approaches instead of traditional approaches. These new approaches are process-based evaluation, performance evaluation, proof-based history questions, project works, portfolios, observation and interview, mind map, research homeworks, rubrics, peer evaluation, self-evaluation.
