Evaluation of social studies and science education's undergraduate programs in terms of environmental education

Undoubtedly, the way of educating people who understand from the language of nature and have knowledge about natural resources goes through environmental education. The profession group that holds important tasks for the attitudes towards the protection of the environment can be transformed into behavior in the individuals in society is teacher. A teacher is a person who processes a society with knowledge and experience, contributes collective value, and improves the level of culture and education of the society. At this point , the training of teachers is of great importance for the future of the society. The purpose of this research is to examine the undergraduate programs of Social Sciences and Science Education in terms of environmental education. In the research, document analysis technique was used as qualitative research methods. In order to reach the findings, the curriculum of 40 universities' Faculty of Education providing education in Social Studies Education and 45 curriculum of Education Faculties in the field of Science Education were analyzed. Programs were evaluated in terms of general characteristics, goals / achievements and content. This relationship has been tried to be stated in the course, content and tables. As a result of the research, it is found out that the compulsory courses in the subjects related to environmental and environmental education are limited in the Social Studies and Science Education undergraduate programs, that only a course in the Science Education Program is directly related to environmental education and that the elective courses related to the environment in education faculties of universities has been found to be limited in programs
