Comprasion of social studies and science teacher candidates metaphorical perceptions towards sustainable development goals

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine and compare the metaphorical perceptions of pre service social studies and science teachers towards sustainable development goals. The study group of the research consisted of 110 pre-service teachers (55 Social Studies and 55 Science) studying at the Faculty of Education of a state university in the Mediterranean Region. The research used qualitative research method and was designed with phenomenology (phenomenology). The interview form prepared by the researcher by taking expert opinions was used in the research. In the interview form, pre-service social studies teachers and pre service science teachers were asked about their metaphorical perceptions towards the concepts of "Sustainability", "Development", "Sustainable Development" and Sustainable Development Goals. The data obtained were analysed by content analysis. When the results of the research were evaluated in general, 76 themes were created by Social Studies teacher candidates' and 86 themes were created by Science teacher candidates' metaphors regarding the goals of sustainable development it was found that pre-service social studies teachers and pre-service science teachers associated the concept of "sustainability" with the social dimension of sustainable development, pre-service social studies teachers associated the concept of "development" with the social and economic dimensions of sustainable development, pre-service science teachers associated the concept of "sustainable development" with the economic dimension of sustainable development, pre-service social studies teachers associated the concept of "sustainable development" with the social dimension of sustainable development, and pre-service science teachers associated the concept of "sustainable development" with the economic dimension of sustainable development. It was concluded that pre-service social studies teachers and pre-service science teachers associated the goals of sustainable development more with the social dimension of sustainable development, while they associated them less with the economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.
