An investigation of social studies pre-service teachers' perception of environmental ethics

Aim of this study is to determine environmental ethic perception of prospective social studies teachers. Within this aim, this research is a descriptive study and conducted with survey method. Research universe consists of prospective social studies teachers studying in Dokuz Eylul University. Data collection tools were applied to Dokuz Eylul University prospective social studies teachers, thus whole research universe was covered. "Personal Information Form and "Environmental Ethic Awareness Scale" developed by Özer (2015) were used as data collection tools. After application of data collection tools, data were gathered, findings about research problem and sub problems were presented. Findings were analyzed in computer via SPSS program according to environmental awareness level with age, gender, grade level and settlement area before university. As a result of the significant differences found in the findings, it was revealed that female students were more conscious about environmental ethics than male students. It is also seen that the awareness of environmental ethics has decreased with the progress of age. Likewise, it was concluded that the class level was inversely proportional to the awareness of the environment, and it was understood that the place of living did not have a meaningful impact on the awareness of the environment. At the end of study, implications were presented about applications should be conducted towards environmental ethics with different samples and variables. Also, environmental ethics awareness levels should be improved.
