The investigation of the relationship between social studies prospective teachers' value perceptions and career choices

The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between the perception of value of social studies teacher prostective and career choices. First associating their preferred career with the value perceptions of prospective teachers will help teachers in their career choice process. On the other hand, examining the relationship between value perceptions and career choices will broaden the current academic literature. The sample of the study is composed of 374 prospective teachers studying in Social Studies Teacher Education Programs, Education Faculties of Adnan Menderes University and Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University. The research model has the characteristics of descriptive survey model from general survey models. In the study, data were collected by questionnaires. 'Personal Information Form', 'Individual Value Scale' and 'Career Dimension Scale' were used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistics were calculated, t-test, Anova, and Pearson Correlation analysis were applied for analyzing the data. The main findings of the study indicated there is a significant positive relationship between the value perception and career choices of Social Studies Teacher prostective. In addition, there is a meaningful difference between the value perceptions of the prospective teachers and their career choices in terms of gender, grades, father education status, father occupation status, settlement where primary and secondary education is carried out and family monthly income situation variables.
