Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between pre-service social studies teacher' global citizenship levels and their attitudes towards today's world problems. Relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was adopted in the study. 787 pre-service social studies teachers studying at 11 different Turkish universities having Social Studies Education undergraduate program. In sample selection, simple random sampling method was used. In addition, the selection of the universities based on 12 regions in Level 1 in the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics classification for Turkey. The data were collected through the Global Citizenship Scale (GCS), the Attitude Scale towards Today's World Issues (ASTWI) and the Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher. In the analysis of data, SPSS Statistics package program was used. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Pearson moment product correlation, simple linear regression analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were used in data analysis. The results revealed a positive and significant relationship between the participants' global citizenship and ASTWI total scores. In addition, it was found that the global citizenship total scores of the participants explained 20% of their ASTWI total scores. Besides, the social responsibility, global competence and global civic participation sub-dimensions of global citizenship scale explained 15.6% of the anxiety levels, 7% of the sensitivity levels and 25.2% of participation in today's world problems.
