Abstract (EN)
This research was carried out to find out prospective social studies teachers' attitudes and views regarding socioscientific issues. It was conducted in mixed-method research blending qualitative and quantitative approaches by using explanatory sequential design. The quantitative data were collected with the "Attitudes towards Socioscientific Issues Scale" developed by Topçu (2010) and the qualitative pillar was completed with a "Semi-Structured Interview Form". The collected data were analysed by using SPSS 20 and content analysis, respectively. As a result of the analysis, a number of variables such as grade level, grade point average, type of high school graduated, subscription to a scientific journal or publication, and mother's education level were found to be determinants. On the other hand, the participants' attitudes were immune from variables like gender, university of study, unit of settlement lived, social media use, the most frequently watched TV show, and father's education level. In particular, the qualitative findings were seen to largely consolidate the quantitative findings. finally, recommendations were brought for further research.
