Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this research is to determine the methods and techniques that social studies teachers use in teaching geography subjects in the social studies lesson, to identify the problems they experience in teaching geography subjects and to develop solutions and recommendations for possible problems. This research was carried out using the " Case Study " design. Data were collected through semi-structured interview forms. The study group consists of social studies teacher working at the 5ht 6th and 7th grade levels in secondary schools in Bafra district of Samsun province. In the study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with twenty social studies teachers. The data obtained from the research analyzed based on content analysis. With this research, the methods and techniques that social studies teachers use in teaching geography subjects in social studies lessons and the problems they encounter while using these methods and techniques have been determined. It has been concluded that social studies teachers mostly use traditional methods, in line with the relevant studies in the literature on the subject. It has been determined that the teachers, who do not use modern methods and techniques adequately, attribute this situation to varios such as the large number of students, the fact that they have to train the course curriculum according to the determined time and economic problems. In the interviews, the findings that overlapped with the methods preferred by the teachers and their views on the problems they experienced while teaching the lesson were similar. It has been determined that the teachers mostly do not make the necessary effort to learn and apply other methods and techniques other than the lecture- answer methods, do not show enough interest by hiding behing the problems, do not make preparations before the lesson and apply the methods and techniques in a superficial haphazard way. When evaluated as a result, it was determined that the social studies teachers mostly ignored the diversity of methods in the teaching of geography subjects in the social studies course, they mostly applied the narration and question-answer methods and they could not benefit / use the student-centered active teaching methods and techniques for various reasons.
