ABSTRACT Ph.D. Thesis SOCIAL CHANGE AND RELATIONSHIP OF RELIGION Fazh POLAT Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Niyazi USTA 2002, page: 150 Jury: Prof. Dr. Niyazi USTA This study is carried out to measure howness of the relationship between social change and religion moving from an assumption that such a relationship exists. For this aim, first theoretical base of the subject is emphasized and attitutes about religion in the context of "factors of social change" are tried to be determined. By an application it is aimed to quantify the influence of change factors on religious attitudes and behaviours. This application is conducted by random sampling among different gender and age grops which are over twenty. Results show that there are differences among different age, gender, education and economic income groups in terms of religious attitudes. In addition, it is found out that there is an interaction between religion and social change. It seems that these two have sometimes positive and sometimes negative corelations. On the other hand, major factors of our research area affecting the attitudes and behaviours about religion are tried to be determined, and how these affect religious attitudes and behavours is emphasized. Finally, data about the relationship between dependent and independent variables are analized.
