Investigation of the between social exclusion and working poor: The case of Bingöl province

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the differentiation status of the perception levels of the working poor participants residing in the province of Bingöl according to the demographic factors in the dimensions of the social exclusion scale was examined. Based on this analysis, the dimensions of the scale were supported by qualitative data in order to reveal the connection between social exclusion and working poverty. In the model of the research, "convergent parallel mixed method design" was preferred among the mixed method designs. In the study, a questionnaire on demographic data and the "Social Exclusion Scale" to measure the level of social exclusion were preferred. In addition to this scale, in-depth interviews were conducted with the participants using a semi-structured interview form. Criterion sampling was used in the study. The research was carried out with 550 working poor individuals living in the province of Bingöl with criterion sampling. In-depth interviews were conducted with 15 participants from these individuals. The data obtained as a result of the research were analyzed and suggestions were developed by interpreting them from the perspective of social work. As a result of this study, between the concepts of working poverty and social exclusion, which is a manifestation of the changing poverty today, there is a need to meet the needs, education, health, social services, socialization, leisure time, etc. The existence of some intertwined relations in the fields was revealed within the scope of this research. Working poverty is a factor that facilitates social exclusion. Gender, age, education level, occupation, sector of employment, number of children and income variables create significant differences in the social exclusion perception levels of working poor individuals. In addition to these variables, financial deprivation, meeting needs, access to services such as health, education, socialization skills, leisure time, access to social services, participation in social activities, future expectations, informal social security function of the family institution, villages as a social support tool in cities, factors such as use as; affects the experience of social exclusion of working poor individuals. According to the results of the research, in the fight against working poverty and social exclusion; ıt has been reached the necessity of ımproving the market conditions under the supervision of the state, increasing decent job opportunities, eliminating the damages caused by globalization in informal social security and solidarity elements such as family, kinship, neighborhood, non-governmental organizations, associations, philanthropy initiatives, belief rituals (fıtra, alms, etc.), social welfare practices and social services should be strengthened and maintained under the supervision of the public as human and citizenship rights.
