The reflections of social life to the seventeenth divan poetry and meaning frames

This study has been put forward on 24440 poetry texts that take part in divans of 70 divan poets lived between the years 1615-1720. Social materials have been identified and 14341 index cards have been obtained. Identified index cards have also been evaluated by classifying according to their topics.In these studied texts, every element that concerns people and society such as social constructions, traditions, beliefs, behaviours and practices, recreational life, food and clothing, belongings, residential centres, economic activities, illnesses and ways of treatment, crimes and ways of punishment, sporting activities, ways of communicaton and transportation of Ottoman society in the seventeenth century has been mentioned. Poets have used these elements in their poems within the frame of teşbih, istiare, teşhis, mecâz-ı mürsel, îhâm, tevriye arts. In addition to these headlines, it is also identified that the various political, economic, social problems the Ottoman Empire experienced in the seventeenth century has been interpreted in an aesthetical way by the poets.Poets have mentioned a lot about the sultans and elements related to them as an extension of sultan-centered state construction in that period. Tradions ensuring the cultural continuity have also been among widely mentioned topics. The least informed topics are sporting activties and ways of communication and transportation.Except for the divans, the information given by Evliya Çelebi and foreign travellers coming to the Otoman Empire with various missions has also supported the expressions of the poets.
