Abstract (EN)

It is a well-established fact that Internet has made communicating easier. The idea of world getting smaller, helps make the interactions more rapid and efficient. From this point of view, the term social media emerges as an important concept which helps the interaction speed among the individuals. Control, as a defining concept which walks hand-in-hand with communication, created various ways of limiting the freedom Internet itself has provided. Limitations which can be described within censorship became apparent in the field of Internet and social media. Generally associated with censorship itself, self-censorship gained importance due to its potential of limiting the interactions of individuals. This study aims to study the self-censorship acts of Facebook users via using online survey and semi structured inteview, in the context of surveillance and spiral of silence.
