The characteristics and intended use of social networking sites: The analysis of problematic internet use through the high school students

The problematic use of the internet is the result of losing control over the internet and turning it into excessive use. This problematic use affects the social life of the individual and is a cause for experiencing different problems. The aim of research is to explore the features of social networking platforms, the peculiarities of problematic usage of usage goals, and the impact on the process of the occurrence of this problem. Based on this aim high schools were selected in Istanbul. To the total of 198 pupils receiving education in these high schools, a survey of 10 questions was conducted and the data obtained from the survey were analyzed using the SPSS program. In the questionnaire using the five-point scale likert, students were asked about the purpose of using social networking platforms such as Youtube, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, which are the most widely used social networking platforms in Turkey. In addition, by selecting 13 expressions from criterion developed by Young in order to determine the levels of addiction to the use of the internet using the DSM IV gambling criteria, we tried to measure pupil addiction attitudes using five points likert scale. According to the data obtained, it was established that social networking platforms mostly used are Youtube and Instagram, while Facebook, as one of the networks that used once, is almost no longer preferred. While study the goals of using social networking platforms between the five factors used in our metering criteria, it has been proven they come out in the foreground the pursuit of the persons or the or entertaining brands, that they are not preferredas communication initiation, communication continuity and distribution of brands. According to the results obtained from highly variable regressive data developed in SPSS, students' goals at he of use of social network platforms do affect their level of dependence.
