Graphic design and documentation as a social responsibility project

Graphic Designers plays an important role in effecting and orienting society and creating visual cultural texture of the world. Issues like visible depletion of the resources, deterioration of ecological balance with environmental adverse factors, diseases etc. that deeply affect the society in the 21st century, has led graphic designers to create design works in the social responsibility field. The term social awareness can be evaluated as the all the works that are carried out to eliminate the concerns and problems about social and environmental issues as a whole. According to this term, individuals have responsibilities towards the society they live in their country and even towards the world. The aim of the research is to set forth the role of graphic design which is an effective communication tool in raising awareness of the society about social responsibility and its power to create change the review. In accordance with this purpose, in the research that has been shaped with mixed research method, a documentary film, a public spot, billboards and posters that address the issues of the street animals and give solution suggestions. The documentary was presented to the 311 secondary school students consist of girls and boys that comprise the study sample of the research and in order to measure their awareness regarding the street animals, surveys were conducted before and after they watched the documentary. The findings that are obtained from the survey data were interpreted; and it was concluded that the graphic visual design applications within the scope of the social responsibility increases the level of awareness about the subject matter of street animals.
