Abstract (EN)

In the master's thesis titled 'Examining the Barbie Film from the Perspective of Socialist Feminism', it is aimed to study whether the Barbie film, which was released in 2023 and divided the audience into two, is a feminist work or an anti-feminist story. The evaluation of the view of socialist feminism will be made through the scenes in this film, which also divides women's rights defenders into two. From the perspective of socialist feminism, gender roles, sexism and the effects of capitalism on women in the film will be evaluated. This analysis aims to examine how Barbie reshapes traditional images of femininity and its relationship with capitalism. It is intended to emphasise that, contrary to many criticisms, it would be correct to see Barbie as a feminist film when analysed in the context of socialist feminism. It is aimed to show the cruelty of capitalist consumer culture and patriarchal order in terms of women and the forms of exploitation of women with identities such as class, race, gender, religious belief when they encounter the real world in Barbie's perfect world.
