Music teaching and learning in context of oral traditional: Bolu province sample

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is aimed to study the basic features of the process of music teaching and learning within the context of oral tradition and transfer. In addition to the genders, ages, educational circumstances and occupational qualifications of the individuals who teach and learn music by the oral tradition, it is aimed to determine the characteristics of the teaching place, the frequency of the lessons, the purpose why the teachers and the students learn or teach, the methods and techniques used, the grades of the lessons, the materials used, the music types taught, the communication between students and the teacher and the problems faced. The study was carried on with 15 teachers and 14 students that were reached by the chain sampling in the Bolu province center and the allocation units bound to the province center. In order to gather the necessary data, interviews have been made with the students and teachers included in the sampling and the process of teaching- learning has been observed. As a result of this study, it has been determined that written sources are not used for music teaching made by the oral tradition in Bolu province center, the purpose of the lessons was to take up a profession, generally houses were selected for the lessons, there was no periodic arrangements for the lessons and they were generally made in the spare time. It was seen that the music type taught to a great extent was Turkish Folk Music and percussions, string instruments, plectrum instruments and wind instruments were used as materials in the lessons. It has been determined that during the lessons, such stages as content earning, attention drawing, feedback, correcting, reinforcement, explaining of purposes, summarizing and motivation were taken into consideration. It has been determined that the communication was generally made by using verbal statements and body language during the teaching process.
