Spatial trends of LGBTI individuals and homofobic trends of people in a location: Antalya example

The gender concept in Turkey, is based on women and men. All services in this framework are directed at women and men, and other gender tendencies called 'others' are ignored. This exclusion is not only public but also social. Essentially, it would not be an exaggeration to say that LGBTIs are "civilians who have been sentenced to a place in society". Disturbingly in Antalya, Turkey's major cities also change this situation. The aim of the study is to try to explain the effects of LGBTIs which are socialized in Antalya city, can not work regularly, can not live their lives freely, and try to explain the effect of the space on these individuals and measure the reflections of homophobia in the city at the same time and try to find the place of LGBTİs. In the scope of the study, the methods used by LGBTIs as meeting places in Antalya were examined. The location of these sites, their use in relation to their surroundings, their physical characteristics and user profiles were determined based on on-site observations, interviews and interviews with space staff. A survey developed by Güney vd. (2014) was used to determine the spatial orientations of LGBTIs. A survey was conducted with 50 LGBTİs in Antalya city center. "Homosexual Attitude Scale" developed by Doğan et al. (2016: 84-90) was used to determine the homophobic orientations of the research group. Findings revealed that LGBTİs lived intensely in districts such as Kışla, Güllük, Yüzüncüyıl, Lara, Konyaaltı, Kültür which are located in the central districts of Muratpaşa and Konyaaltı. The districts they wanted to live on were mostly Lara, Uncalı and Konyaaltı. The reason for choosing these regions is that they have a more moderate viewpoint than the LGBTIs. As a result, after the research, it became clear that LGBTIs were trapped in certain symbols, shopped in certain places, and continued their lives in a limited space. While Kepez, Muratpaşa and Konyaaltı regions had a high homophobic attitude, it was much less in Lara.
