Abstract (EN)

This study is motivated by the idea that a democracy needs certain human qualities in order to truly exist within a political society. Benedictus de Spinoza's favorable philosophical project was utilized to clarify this point As a matter of fact, this thesis, in which we investigate what kind of people democracies desire in the light of Spinoza's philosophy, consists of three chapters. The thesis starts with a brief introduction to the subject along with Spinoza's personal life in general and the living conditions of his native region. The first part is about the prominent concepts and arguments of Spinoza's philosophy and explaination of the general framework of this system of thought. The second part contains various information about Spinoza's political philosophy. In addition, his considerations on the notion of democracy are explained in the same section. The last chapter presents an analysis of Spinoza's philosophical world as a whole and some of the human qualities that democracy requires. As a result, in this study, we have reached various conclusions within the scope of our research problematic by utilizing Spinoza's philosophical thoughts in general and his ideas on political philosophy in particular in order to understand some of the human qualities that we think essential for democracy.
