Examination of multiple intelligence fields of candidates entering special skill exam in sports science field

Intelligence has become the focus of research in recent years, as an important element tobe come successful and to create a difference. Intelligence has an important role in bringing an athlete toupper levels. In this respect, our research aimed to examine the types and states of intelligence of the candidates taking special talent examinations in the Faculty of Sports Sciences. The universe of this research consists of candidates taking special talent examinations in Faculties of Sports Sciences and Higher Schools of Physical Education and Sports in Turkey and the sample group consists of the candidates taking special talent examinations in Gaziantep University, Higher School of Physical Education and Sports. Inthisresearch, theeighttypes of intelligences pecified by Gardner (1993) in his Multiple Intelligence Theory, werestudied. Those withpoints between 32-40 were evaluated as highly developed; those with points between 24-31 were evaluated as developed; between 16-23, as moderately developed; between 8-15, as slightly developed and between 0-7, as undeveloped. The normality of the data was examined and the data showed a normal distribution. Percentage, frequency, Independent Sample T Test and One Way ANOVA Test were used in data analysis. Research findings revealed out statistically significant results in terms of the variables of gender, age, economic condition, sports and physical education and acceptance to sports department. It was concluded that, naturalistic intelligence of men washigher than women and the naturalistic intelligence of those getting accepted to the Higher School of Physical Education and Sports washigher than those who were not. As agein creased, verbal intelligence increased, as well. Visual intelligence, naturali stic intelligence, social intelligen ceand physical intelligen cewereal so found to be more developed in the candid at esaged between 23-25. Those with badeconomiccon ditions had a superior musical intelligence. With respectto sports branches, can didates in hand balland basketball branches had superior intra person al intelligence.
