Investigation of the relation between sport instructors' teaching approaches and teacher candi̇dates' learni̇ng approaches

In this research, it is aimed to determine the teaching orientations of the academics in the department of field of sport science and to examine the relationship between pre-service teachers' conceptions of teaching and learning in the same department. Relational cross-hatching model was used in this study. The research, 80 academics from 5 different universities in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions and 796 physcical education and sport pre-service teachers have been reached. Firstly Approaches to Teaching Inventory was used to determine the views of the academics from the participant group, and secondly Teaching and Learning Conceptions Questionnaire was used to determine the views of the pre-service teachers. Analysis of data obtained from scale forms was done using licensed SPSS 22.0 package program. According to the teaching approaches inventory and lower dimensions of the research, no significant difference was found in terms of age, gender, marital status, university, academic title, and years of service of the academics (p>0.05). In a high level and positive correlation was found between the teaching orientations inventory and its lower dimensions. According to the teaching and learning conceptions scale and lower dimensions of the research, significant differences were determined in the lower dimensions of age, class, university, and academic unit of the pre-service teachers(p<0.05). However, no significant differences were found according to their genders(p>0.05). Teaching and learning conceptions scale; there was a weak level and positive relationship with the constructivist conceptions lower dimension, and a high level and positive relationship with the traditional conceptions pre dimension. As a result, it was understood that instructors who serve in field of sport science mainly adopted the student-centered approach and they did not abandon the teacher-centered approach. According to the results of physical education and sports pre-service teachers' conceptions of teaching and learning, it has been determined that pre-service teachers have adopted the constructivist approach.
