Determination of problems and expectations of sport high school students

In this study, problems and expectations of sport high school students were determined and it was compared that whether these problems and expectations differed or not according to the personal information of the sport students.This study was applied 470 sport students attending Sport High Schools in Elazığ, Eskişehir, İstanbul, Malatya and Sivas provinces in 2007-2008 semester year. Kolmogorov-smirnov test, student t test, one way variance analysis and scheffe test were applied in statistical analysis of obtained data. Level of significance was accepted as 0.5. In this study two inventories were used and their validity and reliability were done separately. ?Sport Student Problem Scanning Inventory? consists of four problem areas and 19 problem items while ?Sport Student Expectation Determination Inventory? consists of five expectation areas and 27 expectation items.As a result of the study, according to numerical distribution of the points obtained from ?Sport Student Problem Scanning Inventory?, priority of the problem areas of sport students is like that: problems related with organizations and institutions, problems related with schools life, problems related with economic conditions, problems related with family life. On the other hand, priority of the problem items is like that: Inadequate facilities prevent me to make sports, there are no suitable places to make sports in school, I can?t effort sport equipments, and my family says that I should finish the schools first then I can make sports. In addition, according to numerical distribution of the points obtained from ?Sport Student Expectation Determination Inventory?, priority of the expectation fields of the sport students participated in this study is like that: expectations from the family, expectations from the federation, expectations from school managers, expectations from teachers. On the other hand, priority of the expectation items is like that: our schoolmates should support us by coming our matches and competitions, clubs should control regularity of the trainings, my family should trust me, not only top sports and top teams but also sub-teams and amateurs should have equal opportunities, in schools before exam dates are determined, competition dates should be taken into account.
