The Evaluation about the self esteem respect of the visually impaired students who attend or do not attend to sport teams

ABSTRACTTHE EVALUATION ABOUT THE SELF ESTEEM RESPECT OF THEVISUALLY IMPAIRED STUDENTS WHO ATTEND OR DO NOT ATTENDTO SPORT TEAMSEbru TÜRKMA Thesis, Department of Elementary EducationSupervisor: Asistant Professor İskender ÖZGÜRJune 2007, 66 pagesIn this study the effects of sports were searched on self esteem respect ofvisually impaired students who attend or do not attend to sport teams.The study was carried out in Oğuz Kağan Köksal Visually Disabled school inthe district of Seyhan- Adana. The study performed on 40 students and it had takenfour weeks. In this study Coopersmith self esteem forms and personel informationforms were used. The personel information forms include questions about gender, age,any extra person handicap, if there is, its level, and education status. Furtheremore, theform researches there is any members in students' families with visual disabled. Theseforms were filled one by one for every students with help of the students' developmentfiles and the questions which were asked to the students and their teachers. Coopersmithself esteem forms are transformed to the braille alphabet and used for visually impairedstudents for the first time, so, before that, validity and reliability of the questions aretested. After 4 weeks, Correlation and KR 20 calculations were made on the data fromself esteem forms by using test-repetition method. And, it was determined that the selfesteem forms were acceptable and reliable. Also, T test analysis was made on the datafrom forms. According to result of analysis, it has been seen, there is not anymeaningful effect of ?being sensitive to the light?, ?gender? and ?attending to sportteams? on the mean of self esteem grades.Key words: Visually Impaired Students, Self Esteem Respect, IndependentMovements and Skills, and Physical Education.
