Exercising and comparison of self-esteem and aggression levels of artificial individuals

Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Aim: Studies investigating the effects of sports on personality are gradually increasing. Two important personality traits; self – esteem and aggression come into prominence on sport which includes competition and struggle. In this study, it was aimed to determine whether these personality traits differentiate significantly in terms of various variables and its sub – dimensions when compared to young athletes and sedantaries. Material and Method: A total of 500 undergraduate students (190 women, 310 men) from Ataturk University determined by random sampling method for research sample. Descriptive research pattern from quantitative research method was used in this study. Self – Esteem Scale and Aggression Level Scale were applied to the participants. The data collection form consists of 3 parts. Demographic features take place in the first part of the tool. Self – Esteem and Aggression Level scales used in second and third part of the data collection tool. In the statistical evaluation of the data obtained from the participants and IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0 software was used for statistical analyses. Statistical significance level was determined as p≤0.05. Results: In this study, according to demographic characteristics, significant differences (p≤0.05) were found between some sub – dimensions in terms of both "Aggression Scale" and "Self – Esteem Scale". Conclusion: As a result of this study, when the athletes who participated in the study were compared as young athletes and sadantaries in terms of self-esteem and aggression, a significant positive difference for male athletes in terms of sub-dimensions of self-esteem, self-value and self-confidence. It can be said that there was a significant statistical positive difference for young athletes in physical aggression, oral aggression and anger in the sub-dimensions of "Aggression Scale".
