A study on-free time utilization sports man after leaving prefessional sports activities

This research is concerned with sportsmen and sportswomen who in their past exercised performance şports ( who in their individual sporting branches, in Turkey, achieved to take at least öne of the first three vvinning places and who played in the first league in team şports) but who ceased sporting and are inactive at present (n = 107 Male 84, Famale 23). The aim of this study is to research their frepuency of participation in sporting activities and the level of interest in evaluating the spare time at their present, relatively retired life. The questionnaire consists of 43 questions. An initial pilot study is made on 25 participants from Mersin and Adana provinces. 107 participants who have replied the guestions of the effective guestionnaire are living in different cities of Turkey. %76.6 of the participants (82 persons) take place in activities with recreational purpose, but their occupation is irregular and not connected to any organizations. Excluding şports, the ratio of participation in activities to evaluate spare time is %56.1 (60 persons). The relation betvveen the educational, economic, professional and sexual status and the participation in the evaluation of spare time activities is analyzed in accordance with the X2 (x-square) technigue. A meaningful connection betvveen the variables was not observed (P > 0.0.5). Also, no meaningful connection was found betvveen the participation in sport activities purposive of spare time evaluation and the sex, the duration of performance sporting and the individual branches of the participants. A meaningful connection was seen betvveen the habits of men/women who did not smoke ör take alcohol vvhile sporting but who acquired habits to use them after retirement (P < 0.05). Persons of performance şports who gave their years to sporting activities must furnish examples and must be leaders for those who did not exercise şports seriously in their lives. That the purpose of recreational activities is not solely to fiil in the spare time requires a state of consciousness vvhich ought to be transferred to non-sporting people by duty-bound sportsmen and women. A greater number of people must be attracted and appealed to by recreational and sportive organizations.
