Investigation of athletes attitudes to nationalism insports

This study is conducted to determine the attitudes of sportsman towards nationalism in sports. In this study, the attitude scale of nationalism in sports is developed by the researcher and the attitudes of the sportsman are investigated depending on the variables. The attitude scale of nationalism in sports consists of three dimensions, to illustrate; negative nationalism (nine items), enthusiastic nationalism (seven items), and constructive nationalism (two items) with 18 items in total. The reliability scores of the scale factors are calculated as follows; .93 in negative nationalism dimension, .92 in enthusiastic nationalism dimension, and .71 in the constructive nationalism dimension. The reliability of the scale is found to be coefficient .94 (Cronbach Alpha). 545 people 364 men and 181 women who are currently studying at the faculty of sports sciences participated in the study. The attitude of the participants towards nationalism is investigated depending on the participants' demographic characteristics and attitude level. Parametric tests are used in the study as the obtained data showed a normal distribution. According to the results of the study, it is found that the nationalism attitudes of the people are at a moderate level. As for negative nationalism, there is a significant difference in terms of age, nationality status and department variables (p<0.5).However: there is no significant difference in terms of other variables. (p>0.5). This study presents various suggestions and implications both to the field and to other researchers.
