Investigation of the factors that affecting motivation in watching sports

Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted to investigate the factors influencing the motives of sports spectators' watching the sport. In this respect, it has been tried to understand whether there is a relationship between age, sex, marital status of sports viewers, their status of whether or not to do sports actively, the frequency of doing the sport, the sport in which they are interested, their income status, their education levels and determining the causes of watching sports. In this research, the general screening model which is one of the descriptive research methods and descriptive statistics model were used so that the necessary data can be collected in accordance with the terms of the statistical analysis. The questionnaire method was used as the method of collecting data. As a result of the literature survey, the sports consumption scale questionnaire, which was developed in 2008 by Trail, was used. Sub-dimensions of the scale and reliability coefficients; success (.89), aesthetic (.89), drama (.82), escape (.85), information (.92), ability (.91), social interaction (.93), physical attractiveness (.78), aggressiveness (.79) is defined as liking. Research of the universe, the Hittites in the 2011-2012 academic year at the University studying at undergraduate and postgraduate level consists of a total of 4421 girls and 5093 boys. The sample group of these students were selected by simple random sampling method was composed of 153 female 371 male students. According to the research results, considering men spectators' reasons success, drama, knowledge, skill and liking aggressiveness it's determined that they are more motivated than women in those sub dimensions. Considering women spectators' reasons physical appeal it's determined that they are more motivated than men in that sub dimension. When the data analyzed in terms of income status groups, there is no meaningful difference was found between the reason of watching any sport competitions and motivation of watching any sport competitions. When gender differences were analyzed, statistically meaningful difference wasn't found in aesthetics, escape and social interaction sub dimensions. When the results which gathered from marital status analyzed in knowledge sub dimension statistically meaningful difference was found in countenance men. When the data which gathered from sport spectators' income status dispersion analyzed in success sub dimension statistically meaningful difference was found in countenance BA students. When the data which gathered from age differences analyzed, statistically meaningful difference wasn't found in any sub dimension. When the data which gathered from sports spectators' actively doing sports or not analyzed, in aesthetics, drama, knowledge and skill sub dimensions dimension statistically meaningful difference was found in countenance spectators who are doing sports. When the data which gathered from differences between 3 major sports that spectators watch analyzed, in football, basketball and volleyball branches only in volleyball branch in physical appeal F(1,522=4.96; P˂0.05) sub dimension statistically meaningful difference was found.
