Investigation of the effects of sports on risk taking behavior of high school students

Abstract (EN)

In this study was investigated the effect of sports on high school students' risk taking behavior. In addition, this study aimed to investigate whether risk taking behaviors change according to gender, age, type of high school, class level, place of residence, economic situation of their families, number of siblings, job status of their parents regularly, sports branch of interest and sporting place, state of cigarette and alcohol use and social status. The population of the research consist of 2458 high school students is in Aydın Efeler District Provincial Directorate of National Education on Yüksel Yalova Fine Arts High School, Emel Mustafa Uşaklı Anatolian High School, Aydın İncirliova Sports High School, Bahçeşehir Anatolian High School and Aydın Anatolian High School. Random sampling method was used to determine the research sample. With the G.Power 3.10 program, a high level of impact was found and 401 people were included in the study. Personal information form consisting of 14 questions and Risk Taking Scale in Adolescents were used to collect the research data. The analysis of the data was analyzed by SPSS 22.00 package program. Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation), T-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Scheffe test from post-hoc tests were used for data analysis. The research was evaluated statistically (p <0.05) over the significance value. As a result of the research, significant differences were found according to gender, age, high school types, class levels, families' economic status, number of siblings, sports branches, sports places, smoking and alcohol use and expressing their social lives.
