Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of the research is to examine the effect of sports on the self-confidence levels of university students. Material and Method: The survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. The population of the research consists of students (34,129) studying at Malatya İnönü University central campus in the 2021-2022 academic year. The sample is 381 students who voluntarily participated in the research. A questionnaire consisting of two parts was used as a data collection tool. In the "Personal Information Form" in the first section, demographic information such as gender, age, sports status, sports age, father and mother education status and average monthly family income are included. In the second part, the "Self-confidence scale" developed by Akın was used. SPSS 23 package statistics program was used in the analysis of the data. Independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to compare the groups. Results: A significant difference was found in the self-confidence levels of the university students according to the variables of gender, sports status and educational status of the mother. It was concluded that there was no significant difference according to age, sports age, father's education level and average monthly family income. Conclusian: As a result, it was concluded that sports affect the self-confidence of university students positively and that the self-confidence levels of those who do sports are higher than those who do not.
