Abstract (EN)
This thesis presents the stabilisation of a clayey soil using crushed waste ceramic tile. The clayey soils could be stabilized by mixing with certain material, including crushed waste ceramic tile (CWCT). The effects of the CWCT on the clayey soil were investigated here by employing Atterberg limits, compaction, California bearing ratio (CBR), unconfined compressive strength (UCS), 1-D oedometer, and direct shear tests. Various amounts of CWCT (5 %, 10 %, 15 %, 20 %, and 30 % by dry weight) were mixed with the clayey soil at optimum water content. It was found that the CWCT additions could be used to improve certain soil characteristics, as it led to an increase in maximum dry density and CBR value, whilst decrease in optimum water content, swelling potential, UCS value and plasticity index. Keywords: Clay, waste ceramic, stabilization.
